After a sold out UK tour in late 2022 with punk legends Martha, and their own headline tour last summer, bigfatbig will be celebrating the EP launch by again showcasing their energetic live show around the country on another headline tour. Having shared bills with the likes of The Subways, The Futureheads, Everything Everything, Dead Pony, and Hot Water Music, some at major festivals such as Truck and Radio 1’s Big Weekend, the band have amassed a loyal community of followers in the DIY punk scene. This endeavour has been continuously supported by BBC Introducing from the start of the bands careers in 2019, being named as one of their ‘tips’ of 2020, receiving multiple plays on BBC Radio 6 Music, and being part of their bill for Reading and Leeds.
Rippin’ It is a 6 track collection of songs that encapsulate what it means to live, laugh, and indeed, love (but make it punk) as perfect, stunning women in this god awful economy. With more time to display the musical range and inspiration of each individual part of the band, the songwriting itself is distinct from track to track, which is a testament to their evolution. Speaking on the EP, vocalist Robyn Walker says “we hope the songs speak for themselves. We’ve always had a very direct approach to writing, which feels to have come to a head in this set of songs. There aren’t many metaphors or lines to read between, we can’t help but say what we mean and mean what we say - if that’s a positive thing or not, we are still yet to find out!”
Spending their most recent years immersed in the DIY punk scene has completely influenced not only the sound of the EP, but the ethos and attitude behind it, too. Seeing other artists find success without taking the traditional “industry” approach has inspired and rejuvenated their relationship with making music. Rippin’ It is the most authentic expression of bigfatbig’s experiences, driven by thick guitars and an unrelenting vocal throughout the tracks.
